Steven Soderbergh’s most recent film “Black Bag” is a nuanced spy thriller starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. Written by David Koepp, it will appeal to fans of John le Carré’s works.
Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film “The Informant!” tells the true story of F.B.I. informant Mark Whitacre, and the crimes he simultaneously hid from the F.B.I., with an eye towards the darkly comedic aspects of the story. Matt Damon and Scott Bakula shine. Warner’s 4K is a solid upgrade.
“Pale Rider” was the only Western that Clint Eastwood directed or starred in during the Eighties. It is a solid entry in his canon, with great cinematography by Bruce Surtees. Warner’s 4K release is exceptional.
Warner Bros. have given one of Soderbergh’s more polarizing pictures, “The Good German” a 4K UHD release. The film blended film techniques from the Forties with a gritty spy thriller script.
Warner has given Shaka King’s “Judas and the Black Messiah” a fantastic 4K UHD release which features the original Dolby Atmos track missing on the Blu-ray. The film is one of the best dramas of this decade.
Warner has done a brand new 4K restoration of the cult hit film “Constantine” from the original Super 35MM negatives, and it looks tremendous. Fans of the picture will be elated.
Shane Black’s “The Nice Guys” is one of my favorite movies of the last decade. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have great chemistry as mismatched partners working a case. Warner has released a 4K UHD.
“The Searchers” is essentially a perfect film, and Warner Archive’s 4K UHD is a perfect release. This 4K earns our highest recommendation.
With a quarter century in the rear view mirror, “Can’t Hardly Wait” has aged really well as a Nineties take on a John Hughes party film. The Sony 4K is really well done with a new Atmos track.
