Warner Archive has given Curtis Bernhardt’s 1945 film noir “Conflict” a Blu-ray release. Humphrey Bogart stars as a man who kills his wife to be with her sister.
Shane Black’s “The Nice Guys” is one of my favorite movies of the last decade. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe have great chemistry as mismatched partners working a case. Warner has released a 4K UHD.
The last Yakuza picture by the unrivaled master of the genre Kinji Fukasaku, “Hokuriku Proxy War” has been given a Blu-ray release by Radiance Films. The film is as cool as sake, suits, guns, and sunglasses.
Despite a solid premise, “Amos & Andrew” doesn’t quite develop into the clever satire it could have been. MGM has given the film a Blu-ray re-release.
Sony Pictures Classics has given Arkansas native filmmaker Jeff Nichols’ debut film “Shotgun Stories” a Blu-ray release. The debut shows a lot of the promise that Nichols delivered on in later pictures.
Michael Curtiz’s “The Walking Dead” is an interesting combination of gangster/science fiction/ supernatural revenge genre films that showcases Boris Karloff. Warner Archive has meticulously restored the film.
Warner Archive has given Michael Pressman’s Angelino urban drama “Boulevard Nights” a Blu-ray release.
“Black Mass” has been given a 4K UHD release by Warner Bros. The film has a good performance by Johnny Depp, but the script could have benefitted from more polished dialogue.
MGM has given the final J.Lee Thompson/ Charles Bronson collaboration “Kinjite: Forbidden Subjects” a Blu-ray release. It’s a mess of a film that will mostly appeal to Bronson and Cannon Pictures completists.
“Game Night” is one of the funniest comedies of the past decade. The ensemble cast features Jason Bateman, Rachel McAdams, Kyle Chandler, Lamorne Morris, Kylie Bunbury, and Jesse Plemons. Warner’s 4K UHD is an enjoyable if slight upgrade.
