“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” earns our highest recommendation. George Miller has returned to the Australian Wastelands of the Mad Max universe to deliver a truly colossal revenge picture that is also a perfect prequel to “Fury Road.” Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth both excel in the film.
“Pet Sematary: Bloodlines” is a prequel to Stephen King’s horror classic. Despite some good ideas, the film fails to generate tension or craft compelling characters. Paramount has given the film a good 4K UHD presentation.
“The Truman Show” has been given a fantastic 4K UHD upgrade to celebrate its 25th anniversary. The film was a great success showcasing Jim Carrey’s dramatic talents and the beautiful scenery of Seaside, Florida.
Scream Factory has given Don Coscarelli’s “Bubba-Ho-Tep” a 4K UHD release. It is the only film that features Bruce Campbell as Elvis alongside Ossie Davis as JFK battling a mummy that preys on the elderly.
The Lubitsch Touch is a wonderful thing to behold. “Heaven Can Wait” finds the director in excellent form with a great cast that includes Don Ameche and Gene Tierney. Criterion released the film in 2018.
“Brewster McCloud” is Robert Altman at his most surreal, experimental, and inexplicable. Warner Archive have given the film a great looking presentation on Blu-ray.
“Crimson Peak” is one of the best works of modern Gothic filmmaking thanks to Guillermo del Toro’s incredible eye for detail and taste for invention. Arrow Video’s limited edition Blu-ray is the definitive edition until we get a 4K UHD.
